Indigenous Groups Protest Against FIFA World Cup 2014
Armed with bows and arrows, around 400 people of different ethnic groups in Brazil rallied outside the Justice Ministry in the capital on Thursday, to protest against a legislation before congress that threatens to shrink the size of some reserves for indigenous groups. The indigenous protesters were demanding to meet with Justice Minister Eduardo Cardozo to discuss the said legislation.
This was the second demonstration by the indigenous groups this week in Brazil's capital.
They were angered about the billions being spent on the tournament, saying the money should have gone to improving Brazil's public services.

And the First Team to Arrive in Brazil is...
Team Australia touched down at the Curitiba International Airport in Brazil on Wednesday becoming the first team to arrive in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup 2014™.
Australia is the lowest-ranking of the 32 teams in the tournament but midfielder Tommy Oar said that they were using that as a motivation.
“We are the underdogs. It will be a good opportunity for the Australian team to surprise, so this is all very exciting. And being in the ‘soccer country’ is an extra motivation, of course,” Oar said in a statement released by FIFA.
“We’ve been training for the last few days and things have gone well. We still have some two more weeks to keep on training, so I think we will be well-prepared for the World Cup."
Australia, who are playing in their third straight World Cup, have their first match on June 13 against Chile as part of Group B. They will also face Spain and the Netherlands.

FIFA has told fans buying World Cup tickets from unauthorized sellers that they could be barred from stadiums.
Three weeks from the opening match, FIFA said Thursday that it "cancels tickets discovered as illegally sold or re-sold with the bearers risking not being permitted entry."
FIFA marketing director Thierry Weil said some fans have already been affected.
"Over the last few weeks we have unfortunately seen more and more people leaving our ticket centers disappointed as they failed to collect their tickets purchased through unofficial websites," Weil said in a statement.
FIFA said its website is the "only legitimate source" for tickets, including a re-sale section for buyers unable to attend.
Football's governing body did not identify "companies, websites and individuals" it said was "offering tickets to unsuspecting fans through unauthorized resells at exorbitant prices."
The Stubhub website was offering tickets made available by buyers priced from $2,300 for the Brazil-Croatia game on June 12 in Sao Paulo. Viagogo's cheapest offer was for $1,149.
FIFA said it is a crime in Brazil "to sell or supply a ticket for more than the face price," and it has provided information to prosecuting authorities.
"The efforts are not limited to Brazil but applied on an international scale in engagement with local authorities in relevant jurisdictions and in particular in close collaboration with consumer protection authorities, which have far-reaching and efficient legal resources," FIFA said.
Almost 3 million tickets were made available for the 64 matches. Adding seats for guests and media, the total World Cup stadium capacity is expected to exceed 3.3 million.

FIFA Calls for Another Test Game at World Cup Opening Stadium
FIFA has demanded for one more test game at the Sao Paulo stadium where the opening match of the World Cup will take place. This is after problems surfaced over the weekend at the venue's inaugural match.
The Arena Corinthians held its first official match on Sunday between the Figueirense and Corinthians soccer teams as part of the Brazilian National Championship tournament.
FIFA was prompted to ask for another test after Sunday's game where not all the seats required for the World Cup were installed in time. FIFA requires the venue to seat 68,000 spectators but only 40,000 were used for Sunday's match. The other 28,000 seats are temporary and will only be used during the World Cup.
The second test game will take place on 29th of May between Corinthians and Cruzeiro. Some problems occurred during Sunday's test game due to an unfinished roof that forced fans to scramble for covered seats because of heavy rain. Part of the roof that will cover the rest of the seats at the stadium won't be finished until after the World Cup, according to the local media.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter: “Mistake” To Award 2022 World Cup To Qatar
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said that awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar was a “mistake”.
When asked by Swiss broadcaster RTS if selecting Qatar was an error, Blatter said: “Of course, it was a mistake.” He added: “You know, one makes a lot of mistakes in life.
“The technical report into Qatar said clearly it was too hot but the executive committee – with a large majority – decided all the same to play it in Qatar.”
However, he denied persisting allegations that Qatar had bought the World Cup. “I will never say that they bought it, because it was political pushing,” he said.
Following his comments FIFA quickly issued a statement to clarify that Blatter had not questioned Qatar’s capability to host the event.
“As explained in his answer to the journalist, the president reiterated that the decision to organise the World Cup in summer was an ‘error’ based on the technical assessment report of the bid, which had highlighted the extremely hot temperatures in summer in Qatar,” it said.
“At no stage did he question Qatar as the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

World Cup final tickets are being advertised for more than $40,000 on the secondary market by holders ignoring a threat from world soccer governing body FIFA to void those not resold via the tournament organizer.
The cheapest ticket to the July 13 final at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana Stadium on Geneva-based Viagogo -- which describes itself as the world’s largest ticket exchange -- is $5,240 for a seat with a face value of $440. Games such as the final and the tournament opener on June 12 are sold out.
FIFA is the only authorized reseller and doesn’t allow ticket holders to charge a premium, and officials have said they will scrap tickets if they can identify sellers on other platforms. Viagogo said it’s providing a needed service and doesn’t offer World Cup tickets in countries such as the U.K., where resale is illegal.
“We abide by local law and, in the vast majority of territories, it’s legal to sell tickets and that might be for more or less than you originally paid,” Oliver Wheeler, a spokesman for Viagogo, said in a telephone interview.
Resellers, who also include EBay Inc.’s StubHub, are being used by fans who missed out on FIFA’s ticket sales. Soccer’s governing body sold almost 2.6 million tickets for the 64-game tournament before the final tranche was offered on April 15, when 126,837 tickets were snapped up within four hours.
